The Springettsbury Township Police Department Announces a Safe Zone for Internet Purchase Exchanges.

December 12th, 2015

If you are buying or selling items through internet sites such as Craigslist and Ebay, you might be hesitant to give a stranger your address or to respond to a stranger’s residence.  To help alleviate some of these fears, the Springettsbury Township Police Department is designating its station as a “Safe Zone” for people to exchange items and cash for transactions arranged through online sales sites.

The department’s parking lot and lobby are available for people to use to safely conduct the transactions. The lobby is open from 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday thru Friday, and both the parking lot and lobby have 24-hour video surveillance.   The Springettsbury Township Police request that no transactions take place after 10:00pm and that no firearms be present.  It can be unsafe to give your home address to someone you don’t know, so conducting the exchange in a public place can be a safer option.

Safe zones have gained more popularity as the amount of internet purchases have increased.  The purpose of the Safe Zone is to provide a safe environment for transactions between strangers.

There is no need to call ahead or make an appointment.  The police don’t need to be present or involved in your transaction whereas the surveillance cameras provide the monitoring.

The exchange area is located in the last two parking spots in front of our building.

Please contact Sgt. Brian Wilbur if you have any questions.
